Emberpaw left camp early that morning. It was his day off. He had worked hard all day yesterday. He hunted in the morning. Cleaned the elders and nursery nests out in the afternoon and went on the moon high patrol. All so he could get today off. He finally reached his favorite tree. This was the tree he had stayed in for four days and nights after his father was killed. Ever since he came here when ever he got the chance. Digging his claws into the tree's base he climbed up the tree as fast as a squirrel. His long tail whipped out behind him. It was long and fluffy much like a squirrels. If a cat didn't know better they might mistake him for a large squirrel. When he reached the highest branch that would support his weight he laid down and curled his tail around him. He looked up at the sky hoping his dad could see him even though the stars weren't showing. "Dad you up there? If so I really need to talk to you. I know you can't respond to me but just thinking you can here me would help." Just than he heard a noise on the ground. Looking down he spotted a cat. From this height he couldn't tell who it was. he sighed and whispered. "I guess our talk will have to wait."

Nightpaw had been worried about her brother, she had been watching him carefully but every time she turned around he would be gone. This time she knew he had the day off and she planned on following him. After he left camp she followed behind but not to closely behind. She saw him climb a tree and go up to almost the top of it. is this where he disappears to everyday? she asked herself. She hid in the bushes that were next to the tree, she was trying to figure out what he was doing but couldn't. Then she walked out and sat there looking up at him. She shook her head slowly and began to clean herself.

Emberpaw jumped from branch to branch much like a squirrel. He looked almost like he was flying from branch to branch. Finally he was low enough to jump to the ground and landed next to his sister. He sighed and shook his head. He glared at her as if he was asking her was she wanted. Even to his sister and brother he didn't talk out loud. To them he was pretty much a mute. Sometimes he wish he had powers like the other cats in his clan. At least empathy so he could know what his siblings where feeling.

The she-cat looked at her brother, she wanted to say something but she bit her tounge even though it wasn't nothing bad. She felt bad for her brother and she knew that their father's death was the the problem for him. Emberpaw was the only thing she could say. SHe looked at the ground and then back at her brother. I just can't say it. I don't want to hurt his feelings. She wanted to say just to get over it and move on but that might hurt him more. |

Emberpaw could tell his sister was uncomfortable. He really didn't like talking really any more. But maybe if he said something. Even one word or sentence she would relax and stop worrying about him. He smiled softly and licked his sisters ear. "Don't worry I'll be ok." There he spoke maybe that will make her happy. He looked up into the trees and saw a squirrel. Smiling he lept into the tree and appeared to fly from branch to branch. He attacked and killed the squirrel before it knew it was even in danger. Grabbing it he dropped it. The squirrel landed with a soft thud beside his sister. He stayed up in the branches though. He felt more at home up here in these branches than in the camp. He was highly considering leaving his clan. But he wanted to wait at least until his sister and brother became warriors.

Nightpaw sighed, she knew it would be hard for her. When her brother said something her jaw almost dropped. The first time he had spoken in a long time. But, Emberpaw I do worry. I worry about you everyday and if your safe. She said and then lowering her head, she whisper i just don't want you to end up like dad did. she said with a sigh. She loved her brother's to much. Emberpaw. I don't think that Silvershade is our real mother, I mean she doesn't even look like us but who is our real mother than. She asked her brother. |

Emberpaw felt bad. Maybe he would talk just around his sister when they where alone. "Will you stop worrying about me if I talk to you? I really don't feel like talking but when where alone I'll talk if it will make you happy." He cared about his sister very much and felt protective over her. He felt terrible that he had upset her so. He never should of shut her out. He smiled softly and purred and licked his sisters ear. "Don't worry I won't end up like father. Besides he's watching over us protecting us." This took Emberpaw by surprise. He thought he had been the only one to notice that. But he was wrong. "I don't think she is our mother either. Besides Nightstar told me she wasn't our real mother when I asked him once. She took us in. I think our mother died giving us birth. It's the only thing I can think of."

Nightpaw sighed at when her brother started to speak. Thank Starclan she thought. Now i will since your talking to me. She said. Thinking about what he was saying. She hated bringing up the topic of their father. She smiled and purred and then licked him back. Yes he is but I just want him to be with us.she said with a sigh. She looked at him. Nightstar told you? but if he did, then he knows who our real mother is then she said. |

Emberpaw frowned and licked his paw and swiped it over his ear. He laughed softly. "Yes but he also said he didn't know who our mom was." He had a long talk with Nightstar after his dads death. Nightstar told him many things he did not want to tell his sister and would not. She didn't need her world as she knows it to go spinning out of control any more than it has. So he lied but he knew his sister would never know it was a lie. She had no powers to tell he was. "He thinks she was an apprentice that went missing one day. They never fond her body. And dad had carried us into camp saying we where his so who else could it be?"

Nightpaw looked at her brother, he was probably right. But what if Nightstar knew and he was trying to hide it from us? That wouldn't be right and after all we should know who our mother is. She thought. Wait. You know how we can run fast and everything? She said to her brother. It could be a possiblity that we are half windclan she thought. The more she thought about it the more it was getting to her. She just wanted to know who her real mother is and why she abandoned them. |

Emberpaw shook his head. "Nightpaw stop day dreaming. Our mother is Thunderclan. There are a couple thunderclan cats that can run faster than us even. Our father would never stoop as low as mating with a disgusting Windclan cat. He would have been loyal and stayed in Thundeclan. It was probably the apprentice that went missing. She is the most likely option." He refused to believe their father dated outside the clan. "Lets not talk about that ok. Have you ever climbed a tree?" Emberpaws eyes lit up and he jumped from branch to branch and looked down at his sister smiling.

She thought she was on to something but then again Emberpaw was right, their father wouldn't be with a Windclanner. Then she herd when he asked her if she climbed a tree. She shook her head no and looked at him. Is he going to teach me or something? she asked herself. She jumped up to the first branch but struggled a bit clawing at the tree. When she got on to the branch she sighed. This is hard She thought. |

Thankfully he got his sister to change subjects. Jumping from branch to branch until he reached the one his sister was on. I bobbed and weaved a bit. "Ok when climbing you want to stretch out your claws as far as possible and dig them into the bark. You front and hind legs. Your going to use your back legs to push you up." He smacked her sisters butt with his tail. "Don't use the front legs to pull up you'll just hurt yourself. You need to balance. When a branch bobs and weaves bob and weave with it. Don't fight it flow with it. Ok watch me I'll go slow and actually climb instead of jumping."
Padding to the based he reached up and stretched his front claws out and dug them into the bark. He than lifted one back leg and dug those claws in than the other. Now he was hanging on with just his claws and strength. "See how I'm hanging on? That's the first step than you let go with one paw and reach up. Once you have a good grip reach with the other. It's allot like waking but your walking up instead." Emberpaw walked up the tree until he reached the next branch which was about two tail lengths above him.
